Screen cap from her website of her work. This is her work not mine |
She mostly works on documentary and hard hitting subject matter through the medium of animation (http://www.ellieland.com/) A real inspiration and really exciting for me! My tasks have been outlined although details were not discussed. Siobhan agreed on a skype call later on in early January before I actually start on the 9th (or possibly tenth due to studio building work) Which I will make a blog for when it happens.
Anyway, onto the real subject. So the three tasks I have prepared for work are:
- Animate the new Teesside University logo
- A cyber security project I have yet to get details on
- A NHS information animation informing viewers of the dangers of drinking before surgeries (I think that's what the condition was called, don't quote me on this I will find out later for real)
I will be working mostly on the last task it seems in the studio from 9 til 5 hours for 3 months, not 6 as original advertised. Personally I find this better for me as I will be producing things at a quicker pace which suits my work drive. Siobhan only briefly mentioned pay, but she did say "working wage" which I assume meant minimum wage. Not the ideal, but hey who's complaining at this point? I have a job and with someone who is renowned for her work. It is very excited. Not to mention an old university friend in the same year as I was is working on the same team! What luck. Her name is Zoe and it'll be great to catch up with her.
Siobhan also mentioned that this internship will not likely lend me to getting a job right after it is done. Which is ok, however, slightly disappointing to hear. On the bright side it will improve my chances of finding work and other people in need of animation with experience under my belt that isn't school work. Hopefully when I finish this, it will lend me open to other projects to work on after and will give me confidence to work with other studios, perhaps permanently.
Basecamp's Logo |
Siobhan has also added me to a basecamp group with the team so I can inform myself of their progress so far with the work, they have already produced an animatic, so I will most likely be helping with animation, inbetweening and touch ups with the final produce. Which is brilliant and fine with me! I will most likely have to update my showreels after all this is over.
I think that is all the information that is important, so, in conclusion, Id like to say I am very happy with the milestones I've accomplished lately. It really feels like the first few steps to my career as an animator are finally getting underway. My dreams are starting to come true.
